Roundtower have always recognised the importance of the role of sand in a lime mortar or render, and whether building, pointing, rendering, matching historic mortars or achieving a certain finish, the suitability of the mortar ultimately depends on the suitability of the sand used.
A good sand for lime render should be a washed sharp sand with angular grains of good particle distribution with a very low level of silt to ensure good bonding qualities.
